Club informed about Islam
The Rev. Randy Hardy was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, February 12. A Kiwanian himself, Hardy's program title was "Overview of Islam." He provided an in-depth overview of Islam which he said has 1.2 billion followers world-wide. He presented definitions of terms used in Islam, history, differentiation of the different sects - their practices and beliefs, and discussed the similarities to the Jewish and Christian faiths. He told members that the Sunnis sect contains about 85 percent of all Muslims with Shiites comprising about 14 percent. The Rev. Bill Boyd was program host for the day.
