3 Tigers qualify for state tourney

TREY McCANTS TAKES CHARGE OF HIS MATCH IN RECENT W-W WRESTLING ACTION He was one of three Tigers who qualified for the State Individual Tournament to be held this weekend.

At the Area 2-AA Individual Wrestling Tournament, the Washington Wilkes Tigers emerged in fifth place overall out of 13 teams and three athletes qualified for the State Individual Tournament.

Tyson Gilland was the top finisher for the Tigers and was named Area Champion at 135 pounds. John Lovvorn took second place in the 119- pound class. Both are now threetime state qualifiers - the first in school history.

Also qualifying for state was Trey McCants who finished in fourth place at 152 pounds.

Other results include:

Evan Harrison - fifth place at 130 pounds,

Josh Cosby - fifth place at 125 pounds,

Josh McTier - fifth place at 140 pounds, and

Charlton Ware - sixth place at 189 pounds.

The State Individual Tournament will be held this weekend, February 16-17, at the Gwinnett Arena. beginning at 9 a.m.
