Club gets update on school system
 | | Joyce Williams (right), superintendent of Wilkes County schools, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, February 20. She updated members on things that are going on in the local schools and said that the system is financially sound, doing well, had achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals for the last three years, achieved an 80% graduation rate, and had received the Governor's Cup for significant improvement in Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores. Williams also said that there are still improvements to be made and indicated that Kiwanis members themselves were an untapped resource that could help make students successful - the challenge was to figure out how to tap these resources. Lillie Crowe (left) was program host for the day. |
