Phillips Mill Baptist Church was happy to have Dr. Mark Cheek and his wife Joyce of Thomson among visitors Sunday morning, representing the Gideon ministry. Mrs. Cheek blessed the hearts of those present with special music just prior to his Gideon message. A special offering was taken following the service for the Gideon ministry of placing Bibles in motels and New Testaments in schools and wherever they might feel they may be able to reach people for Christ. There was a good response which showed the working of the Holy Spirit. Thanks to all who took part. Dr. Cheek is a former professor of religion at Emanuel College in Franklin Springs. ..Don't forget there will be a baby shower at Phillips Mill Baptist Church this Saturday afternoon, February 24, for Lori Roth Tucker from 3 to 5 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The shower is hosted by Charlotte and Mahlory Walker. Everyone interested is cordially welcomed to attend. ..There has been a lot of sickness in our area lately, colds, viruses, etc. Special prayers are asked for Jason Downs and his wife, Mary Beard Downs. ..Phillips Mill Baptist Church will be among Southern Baptist Churches sharing special mission emphasis on North American Missions during the month of March and taking a special Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. The 2007 theme for home missions is "Change Your World." You might say why a North American missions emphasis? Because three out of four people in North America are without Christ. Missions starts at home, in our own communities. Please pray about your part. ..To have a good community news it takes input. Will you pray about your part?
