Life of President Jefferson Davis to be subject of one-man drama

DORIN L. SEYMOUR
A one-man play focused on the life of Confederate President Jefferson Davis will be presented at the Washington Little Theater on February 23, 24, and 25.

"Unconquerable Heart: The Life of Jefferson Davis" will star film and television actor Dorin L. Seymour in a production that "captures the essence of Jefferson Davis' spirit, dedication, and loyalty," said Libby Foster. "Audiences have responded with awe and amazement, with anger and puzzlement. So little is known about this American, the first and only president of the Confederacy."

Before the War Between the States, Davis served as a United States Senator, cabinet member, and advisor to five presidents. "Contemporaries and some historians call him the best Secretary of War the U.S. has ever seen," Foster said. "The play sheds full light on this statesman's career and his many torments. Audiences are awakened, stirred to know about the other side of this patriot's life. There is wit, tragedy, great wisdom, and a gnawing sense of backroom politics in the 19th Century."

Actor Dorin L. Seymour has been seen on television programs such as Guiding Light, As the World Turns, Law and Order, Third Watch, and others. He has been in films including A Match in the Rain, Moonstruck, Great Expectations, Manhattan, Arthur, Arthur II, and Ghostbusters.

The play will be presented Friday and Saturday nights, February 23 and 24, at 8 p.m., and in a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. For reservations, call 706-678-9582.

The play is presented by the Washington Little Theater, the Washington Historical Society, and the Civil War Round Table.
