Wilkes native Derrick Tutt named area manager for tech company Derrick Tutt has been named area manager for the Traction North America facility in Orangeburg, S.C. He is the son of Dorothy Tutt and grandson of Mary Ann Tutt. The new manager began his career in 1997 as an assembly operator and was later promoted to supervisor for the Spicer Driveshaft facility in Lenexa, Kansas. In 2001 he transferred to the Spicer Driveshaft facility in Gordonsville, Tenn., where he served as lead supervisor. In 2003, he joined the Traction North America facility in Orangeburg, S.C., as lead supervisor assisting in the start-up of that facility. He was promoted to production manager for the Off-Highway Systems Group facility in Sterling, Ill., in 2005, and began managing multiple departments including production, engineering, maintenance, facility, safety, and environmental within six months. Tutt attended Oakland Community College, studying Manufactur- ing Technology. He completed six Sigma Green Belt training and has also taken numerous Dana Certified Supervisor courses. "Derrick's prior plant knowledge and his leadership skills make him the ideal candidate for this position," says Plant Manager Larry Dillon.
Tutt was a member of the 1989 State Champion Baseball Team. He graduated from Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School in 1990. He enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served five years, doing two overseas tours in Korea and Germany.
