It takes a lot to get a Southern woman mad - bless our hearts - but, one way is to "mess" with our flowers and bulbs we have lovingly placed in the earth with the anticipation of blooms in the spring. Also, we have all grown accustomed to - perhaps even spoiled by - our daffodil sightings along our roadways. Well, it seems that we have a Daffodil Bandit right here in Tignall. Frances Vinson reported that she had set out bulbs last year and all of them were in full bloom. Now, she had admired them for several days and had planned a bouquet for her table on Sunday. Well, low and behold, Sunday morning she couldn't believe her eyes. Someone had pulled every bloom and made away with them. Shame on you if you took them and are reading this. ..Was there a four-wheel festival in town Sunday afternoon? Four-wheelers were racing up and down Hulin Avenue as if they owned the road and sidewalks and as if they were not breaking the law. ..Can you believe that when boat owners along the Georgia coast (as well as along the coast of other states) get tired of an old boat or for whatever reason no longer want the boat, they just partially sink it and abandon it. Now, the Georgia Senate has voted in favor of a bill that would allow the State to possibly revoke the boat registration (of another boat), fishing license or vehicle registration of boat owners who abandon their vessels. It seems that these abandoned vessels are an environmental hazard because they contain fuel and removing the boat is extremely expensive ($60,000/ $80,000 and beyond to remove a sunken boat.) Senator Johnson (Savannah) has sponsored Senate Bill 27 which is an attempt to put the burden of paying for removal on the owners - not on Georgia taxpayers. ..Some people enjoy watching the Academy Awards. However, in recent years the show has come to represent all that's gone wrong with Hollywood. Many of the stars, and I use the term loosely, today believe that their fame has brought them the right to share their unsolicited opinions any time and any place regarding some of the most important issues of our time. When these stars realize that we want to be stirred and moved by their onscreen performances - not by their inappropriate, untimely opinions - many of us may once again begin to hold Oscar night in higher regard. ..Scott and Donald Ware saved a beautiful little Cocker Spaniel that had been hit by a car on Hulin Avenue. It was a very cold afternoon and they got the dog in a box and carried it home to keep it warm. Later, they carried it to Wilkes County Veterinary Services and Dr. Les Sales operated, but was unable to save one of its back legs. The other one was broken. Donald said it appeared to be someone's pet because its coat was not matted and seemed to be a sweet little dog. How could someone just abandon their pet? We checked with neighbors on North Hulin but no one claimed the dog. Doesn't it make your heart glad when you hear of other dog lovers who are compassionate? ..Pat Bobo judged the Senior Beef Ambassador contest in Perry Saturday morning. Winner was Ward Black of Commerce and son of Gary Black. He will represent Georgia in New Orleans in October at the national contest. ..Congratulations to Genna and IV Grimaud on the birth of their daughter, Kaylee Alyssa. Visiting with them Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens were Scott and Kathy Ware. ..Betty Nix of Clarkesville visited for a few days with her sisters, Peggy Ware and Mary Ann Williams. ..We extend sympathy to William Johnson and Debra Johnson on the death of their grandfather, Hal Johnson of Lincolnton. ..Let's remember J.C. Clark in our prayers as he will have had surgery this past Tuesday at MCG. ..Beulah Baptist Church is planning its 200th anniversary reunion for August 19, 2007. Anyone having old pictures of the church and its people, please send them to Pat Mack, Edna Rhodes or Jo Ann Bailey. They would also love to have a picture of the old school at Beulah. ..The senior adults of Tignall Baptist Church went to the Dutch House in Wrens for lunch Tuesday, February 20. They also enjoyed visiting the bakery next door and bringing some of the goodies home with them. ..Sunday was Baptist Men's Day at Tignall Baptist Church. There was an awesome choir filled with about 20 men from the church. Rev. Albert Huyck brought the morning message. After church the youth sponsored a hotdog lunch since the Grand Prix started soon after. .. Don't forget the miscellaneous shower next Sunday at Tignall Baptist Family Life Center for Missy Futch Greeson from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
