Three wrestlers compete well at state tourney

Tyson Gilland was the top finisher for Washington-Wilkes at the Georgia Class AA state individual wrestling tournament, and two others competed well at the event held February 16-17 at the Gwinnett Arena.

At 135 pounds, Gilland advanced to the semifinal round before losing 3-5 to eventual state champion Corey Taylor of Fitzgerald. Gilland's season record was an impressive 52-3 for 2006-2007.

Junior John Lovvorn advanced to the third round in the tournament at 119 pounds before losing by decision to fourth place finisher Tyler Smith of LaFayette. Lovvorn's season record was also impressive at 44-8.

The third Tiger qualifier, Trey McCants, fell to the eventual state runner-up, Randy Stanley of Adairsville, and finished the year at 27-16.
