Greedy
By GARY TOOLE

It's sad to say, but it's still true. Most of God's creations are greedy.

There are exceptions to every rule, even animals are greedy. The more they get it seems like the more they want. In fact, I truly believe that the fatter an animal gets the greedier it gets.

I think I can prove that with this example. My sister who lives next door to us had a sack full of cats - so many that I started calling her the cat woman. Some of them came down with something and that thinned them out a bit. When they were a little on the lean side they ate whatever they got and sort of kept to themselves, but just as soon as they started fattening them up with the finest streak-a-lean, steak or something, then greed seemed to take over these felines. We were also throwing our leftover scraps out to them.

The next thing I knew those cats were trying to run up my birdfeeder pole and kill the little sparrows that feed there during the fall and winter. I don't feed them during the spring and summer. I let them do the job God gave them to do - hunt bugs, insects, and worms to keep them at bay. The poor little birds were just getting by. None of them were too fat. Of course, worms were harder to find in this cold weather or otherwise they would have turned greedy too.

Humanity is the same way. The more we get the more we want. My father used to say that folks with a business would be filling up one cash register and crying because they were not filling up another one. God gives us what we need. He gives all His creation what they need. But most of us want more than what we need.

The word says that God will provide our needs. So many want Him to provide all their greedy wants too. God expects us to use moderation. Of course, there's a word that's badly abused by those who like to dip in the vat. They say just before they get three sheets in the wind that it's okay to sip as long as you do it in moderation. I used to drink and never saw very many who drank whiskey, beer or wine in moderation. Come to think of it, I don't know many folks who do anything in moderation. We let that old sinful nature control us.

Being greedy has no place in the heart, in the mind, nor in the body of any true born again Christian. Can you say amen?
