Jerry Stover guest of honor at 60th birthday celebration

Evan Jerome (Jerry) Stover celebrated his 60th birthday at a luncheon Saturday, March 3, with an Over the Hill and Through the Woods theme at the Lions Club. His birthday was March 5.

The clubhouse was festively decorated for the happy occasion. Centered on each dining table were arrangements of ivy, yellow daffodils in Coca-Cola bottles and deer antlers, mostly from the guest of honor's collection. The gift and dessert tables featured framed old photographs of Mr. Stover with the same combination of ivy daffodils and antlers.

Everyone enjoyed a buffet-styled barbecue lunch with stew, baked beans, coleslaw, chips, and fruit prepared by the honoree's brother, David Stover and family.

After the meal everyone enjoyed a delicious strawberry cake decorated with Mr. Stover's nicknames, Julio, Stover, and Papa. A pineapple angel food cake was also served. Both cakes were made by Kermit Hocutt.

After singing Happy Birthday, guests enjoyed a walk down memory lane with a slide show and stories featuring Mr. Stover's childhood.

Celebrating with him were his family, Anna Stover of South Riding, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Matt Gaither and Ella of Canton, Mr. and Mrs. David Stover and Carrie Stover of Mt. Airy, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Stover and Mr. and Mrs. John Stover of Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. David Rayner and Bailey and Phillip Rayner, of Clarkesville, Brian Stover and Haley of Loganville; also Washington friends and special childhood friends, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wheelis of Lawrenceville, Bobby Burton of Elberton, Paul Mims and daughter of Braselton, Mr. and Mrs. Addison Pharr of Winder, Don Carter and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Martin of Gainesville, and Jeanie and Matthew Haynes of Augusta. Other out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Talbert of Lugoff, S.C., and Caroline Smith of Birmingham, Ala.
