Phillips Mill Baptist Church had a real treat Sunday morning, March 4. Skip and Jackie Van Dette of Evans, who recently became new members, shared their testimonies during the worship service. Please keep Jason Downs and family in your prayers. ..Saturday morning, March 3, Rev. Robert Rayner officiated a family memorial service for Bobbie Bradford of Bartram Trace. Sincere sympathy is extended to his family. ..An Easter egg hunt is planned for Saturday, March 31, at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. It will be held that morning from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Anyone who can help please contact Angie Roth. We need pre-wrapped candies and pre-wrapped candy eggs. ..Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy enjoyed having Warren and Ann Newsome, Gloria Hardy, Tom Hardy, and Dorothy Ann and Jimmy Saxon as recent visitors. Pastor Robert Rayner is faithful to stop by. ..Happy birthday to Rev. Allen Danner, pastor of Hephzibah Baptist Church, Lincolnton, on Friday, March 9; and to others having birthdays. ..Sunday, February 25, the three surviving children of the late Action and Essie Echols Combs were honored for their February birthdays with a family get-together in Rayle at "Possumm" restaurant. In attendance were Bernice (Mrs. Loyd) McAvoy, 85, her children, Ronnie and Dianne McAvoy, Gail and Reggie Galbreath, and several great-grandchildren, Tucker and Tamare McAvoy; Marion (Mrs. Newton) Poss, 73, her children, Jimmy and his daughters, Tara Rodriguez Sal, Mathew and Victoria; Janie Poss and her other grandmother, Libby Reines of Danville, Va.; Joyce Ann and Willie Frank Blackburn, the children, Angela and Brant Vickey, and their children, Katie and Brantley, Lynn and Shawn Carter, Cody, Katie and Chancey; Kenneth Poss who operates "Poss-umms," his twin daughters, Sam and Nichie; Jeff and Laura Poss and daughter Amanda; Thomas Combs, 71, was unable to attend but his wife Sara and grandchildren, Cecelia Wolfe, Michael and Emily were there for him. Belated happy birthday to all. ..On Friday night, February 23, Joyce Ann and Willie Frank Blackburn had a surprise birthday supper at their home in Washington for her mother, Marion Combs Poss. Attending this event were grandchildren, Angie, Katie, and Brantley Vickeys, Lynn Carter, Katie and Cody, Sam and Nickie Poss, and friend, Josh Parker. The real surprise was to see son Jimmy's daughter who came all the way from Danville, Va., and her other grandmother, Libby Reins, whom Marion had not see in 18 years. ..Remember, God loves you. Thanks for your prayers and loving concern for me and my family. Things are looking up.
