Tractor pull Saturday is first of season in NE Ga.

The Wilkes County Young Farmers are expecting 175-200 hooks at this weekend's tractor pull.
More sounds of thunder will mark Aonia's place on the motorsports map this weekend as the Wilkes County Young Farmer Truck and Tractor Pull will be held Saturday night at the new facility off Highway 78 at Big Cedar Road. This is the first pull of the season in northeast Georgia, said organizer Eric Holton. "We're expecting 175 to 200 hooks in 49 classes Saturday, with a lot of local people bringing new tractors and trucks. It's going to be good."

Admission for the pull is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 to 6. There is no charge for children under six.

A pedal tractor race for kids six and under will be held after the antique classes finish in the afternoon. "Bring your own pedal tractor and compete," Holton said.

Antique classes run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with signup opening at noon. Hot Farm, Modern Farm, and Truck sign up is set from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30, and competition goes from 6 p.m. until it's over. There is a $10 charge per hook. A complete copy of the regulations is available at www.teacherweb.com/ga/wwchs/ youngfarmersprogram or by contacting Holton at 706-678-4044.

Holton said he expects to see motorcycle and ATV racers from Aonia Pass Motocross Park, which is adjacent to the pull site. "We're hoping that a lot of the racers and their friends will walk over to our event," he said. "We'll have antique trucks and tractors in the afternoon and the modern trucks and tractors in the evening, so after they're done racing they can come spend the evening with us."
