Cullars Jr. trial to begin Tuesday in Augusta Federal courthouse

Accused Wilkes County cocaine dealer Nathaniel Cullars Jr. will stand trial in Federal court next week in Augusta.

Cullars is charged with one count of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute stemming from an arrest by Washington Police in June, 2006. The trial, starting with jury selection, will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Courtroom 2 at the Federal Justice Center in the U.S. Courthouse in Augusta.

Judge Dudley H. Bowen Jr. had been assigned to the case, but has filed a reassignment order that will assign the trial to another judge.

If convicted in Federal court, Cullars Jr. faces a prison term of not less than five years and not more than 40 years, plus fines up to $200,000, according to the penalty certification submitted by Federal prosecutor Stephen K. Marsh, assistant U.S. attorney.
