Wilkes health students compete at state leadership conference

Joni Bruce, a senior and member of Health Occupations Students of America at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School, placed in the top five in the Nursing Assistant category at the HOSA state leadership conference and competitive events. Elaina Wood and Debra Williamson, juniors at WWCHS, placed in the top nine in the CPR/First Aid category.
The conference and competitive events were held in Athens March 1-3. Over 1,000 students from across Georgia met in the Classic Center and were welcomed be the Georgia State HOSA President, Ryan Barrett. Students had the opportunity to choose from 21 competitive categories.
The categories the W-WCHS HOSA members competed in were Nursing Assistant, CPR/First Aid, Concepts of Healthcare, Extemporaneous Health Poster, and Prepared Speaking. Other members who participated in the events were Chiquita Turner, Ashley Ingram, and Quijona Yarbrough.
