Jack Rhodes honored at surprise birthday celebration

Jack Rhodes was honored on the occasion of his 83rd birthday at a surprise celebration given by his family at the home of Chan and Phyllis Drake on Sunday evening, March 11. His birthday was March 12.

The house was decorated throughout with colorful arrangements that included many hybrid daffodils and forsythia with other spring blossoms. Family and guests gathered in the sunroom where tables were covered in blue and centered with other arrangements of daffodils and forsythia.

A delicious steak dinner with all the accompaniments was enjoyed.

For dessert Mrs. Drake made her brother a sour cream pound cake iced in white and decorated with a yellow border and green trim. Inside the center she placed a vase holding colorful daffodils. The numeral "83" was at the back of the top and "Happy Birthday Jack" was inscribed near the front. The cake was enjoyed with ice cream.

Joining the guest of honor was his wife, Jean Rhodes; also his siblings and spouses, Nita Rhodes Riley and Glenn Rhodes of Tignall, Peggy Rhodes Callaway, Freddie and Barbara Rhodes, Charles and Mary Rhodes and Chan and Phyllis Rhodes Drake of Washington, Pelham and Olivia Rhodes Norman of Lincolnton; and friend, Reba Webb of Oglethorpe.
