Middle School Tigers win opener

The Washington-Wilkes Middle School Tiger baseball team opened its season with a stunning victory over the Wrens Middle School Colts 13-1 last Wednesday, March 8.

Trey McAvoy pitched four innings and logged four strikeouts while giving up only the lone run. David Martin took the mound in relief and pitched a scoreless inning striking out two batters. McAvoy recorded the win.

Trey McAvoy, Robert McGill, James McAvoy, Whit Winfrey, Chase Shelton, Tabor Jackson, Jarrett Gaye, Tom Saggus, Blake Connell, and D.J. King all had hits in the win. Trey, Robert, David, Whit, Chase, Tabor, Tom, Blake, and DaQuan Heard all scored one run each with Tom and Jarrett each scoring twice.

Next the young Tigers will take on Thomson at home this Friday, March 16 beginning at 4:30 p.m. On Tuesday, March 20, the team will travel to Wrens where the Colts will attempt to get some unlikely revenge.

Reports on games against Lincoln County (March 10) and Elbert County (March 14) were not available be press time for this issue.
