Weather Service honors Thornton
Since 1962, Billy Thornton has been observing the weather and reporting in to the National Weather Service. To honor his 45 years of service, (l-r) NWS representatives Frank Taylor, John Feldt, (Thornton) and Nate Mayes presented Thornton with the Dick Hagemeyer Award. "It's rare for a community to have someone like Mr. Thornton, who has served day in and day out for 45 years," said Feldt, hydrologist in charge of the NWS Southeast River Forecast Center. "It's an incredible history of public service."
