Mayfest owner deserves thanks

TO THE EDITOR:

I just wanted to vent about the positive things that the Mayfest owner do for the county. Everything that has been said about Ms. Sheila Hill - Mayfest owner, in the past have always been negative, and mostly untrue. I have known this lady for a very long time, and she has come a long way. First of all let me be the first to thank her for taking time out of her life to come from Clarke County to Wilkes County once a year to have such a fest to bring everyone together for a day of fun, food, and activities. A lot of people only know her from having parties, and the Mayfest. But there is so much more to Ms. Sheila Hill. She will help and give her last. As a matter of fact some of you may only know negative things about her from hearsay but let me be the first to tell you she is a caring, compassionate, dedicated person. In case you didn't know, she does not make a profit from the Mayfest, and of course she does not have to do it, but if it wasn't for her, the who would. In this county has the guts to go out and do something to give us kids something to look forward to each year? So far NOBODY! I don't know whether or not people of this county know, but all year round Sheila takes time out of her life to come to Wilkes County - our county - and give back to the community. I haven't seen anyone else take the time to do so. She has a lot of days that she come here and have a free day for people of this county, giving away items that many families need or just want. She always put others first. She always want to make sure that us children of the county get school supplies, juices, snacks, etc. and the attention that we deserve. So take a chance and get to know her I promise you will love her. There is not a negative, vindictive, or self-centered thing about her. She sponsors a lot of positive things here and why, I would never understand, she still do, because of the criticism and negative feedback she get from some people in this county. I think she's an excellent person with a Big Heart. So when you see her take the time out to get and know the real Sheila Hill, She is an angel sent from above. "Never judge a book by its cover - read it!" We children need to see positive people do positive things you as people need to come together for us children or you will lost us to the streets. There is nothing for us young to do here, but get in trouble, so come on Wilkes County let's get together and make changes, make things happen.

Thank you Sheila for all you do for us! If it wasn't for you - no one else would do it!
