Albertson and Edwards to represent Wilkes 4-H at State Congress in June

Fourteen Wilkes County 4-H'ers returned from the Northeast District Project Achievement (DPA) competition with honors in their project areas. The competition was held March 9-11, 2007, in Eatonton, Georgia, at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center.

Christina Albertson and Michael Edwards, senior 4-H'ers, advanced to state-level competition in their respective projects, Performing Arts - Piano and Food Fare. Both will participate at State 4-H Congress in Atlanta in June. There they will again present their demonstrations and attempt to earn the prestige of Master 4-H'er and advance to the National level competition.

Seniors placing second included Molly Newsome in the History project and Mariah Crew in the Conservation of Natural Resources project. Ty Owens placed fourth in the Food Fast & Healthy project and Brittany Klaus placed fifth in the Festive Food for Health project.

First place junior 4-H'er was Angela Broome in the Human Development project. Second place junior winner was Joshua McLeroy in Target Sports. Third place winner was Hayley Colvard in the pizza project and Dixie Lee Trimm in Performing Arts - General. Other 4- H'ers competing were Chance Stickney and John Pope both in Festive Food for Health, Amanda Wood in History, and Emily McNure in Performing Arts - Vocal.

Joshua McLeroy, son of Dwayne and Tina McLeroy, was elected to the Northeast District 4-H Junior Board of Directors. He will officially assume office on July 1. His duties for the following year will include hosting assemblies at Junior Conference, Cloverleaf DPA, and involvement in the community through project club work.

Attending DPA with the 4-H'ers were Marcie Simpson, County Extension Coordinator; Jackie Crew, County Program Assistant; Tina McLeroy, volunteer; and Dwayne McLeroy, volunteer.
