Corporate sponsors play important role in Wilkes Relay for Life
By CATHY LANNAE

As the 2007 Relay for Life (RFL) Washington-Wilkes gains momentum, the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the RFLplanning committee recognizes the businesses, organizations and individuals who have acknowledged the importance of this team event to fight cancer by offering their corporate sponsorship and support.

A Proud Sponsor sign represents support at the silver, gold or platinum level. Others provide support by underwriting the survivor dinner, survivor tote bags, event programs, raffles, and the silent auction.

Sponsors are:

In Kind - The News-Reporter and WXKT-WLOV Radio.

Platinum - Wills Memorial Hospital.

Gold - The Fitzpatrick Hotel, the Blakey Family, Twin Oak Baptist Church, and Barnett-Southern.

Silver - Badcock & More Home Furniture, Bee Southern, LLC, Bumper to Bumper of Washington, CSRA Home Health Agency, Church of the Mediator, Denard & Moore Construction, Stan and Elizabeth Coe family, Fareway Building Supply, Farmers and Merchants Bank, Farmers State Bank, FIevet Pharmacy, Griggs-Ficklen Insurance, Glit Microton, LaCabana Mexican Restaurant, Lannae Construction, McDonald's, Petal Pushers, Rayle EMC, Regions Bank, Savannah Valley Rehab, Scarborough's Inc., Sim Dill, Contractor, Springfield Baptist Church, Tena's Jewelty and Gift Shop, the Olmstead Family, Washington Tire & Auto, Wilkes County cattlemen's Association, Wilkes Health Care Center, Wilkes Telephone Co., and Wood Specialty Co.

Pop-Lahr Possibilities, Washington Woman's Club, J&J Cleaners, The Garden Party, Eddie Drinkard Real Estate Sales, LaFayette Manor, Carlton Norris, Griggs Realty, Standard Auto & Equipment, Big Chick, Subway, Andrews Quick Lube, Andrews Auto Parts-NAPA, Washington Dance Academy, Sara Singleton Catering, Fountain Salon & Spa, Double D Lawn Maintenance, Georgia Respiratory Home Care & Medical Equipment, and Joe Barnett.

Funds raised by Relay For Life help assure that research for new and more effective cancer fighting drugs continues. These drugs, early detection, education, and patient services all are direct benefits to our community. A very important arm of the American Cancer Society is their advocacy for cancer related legislation at the local, state and federal levels. Everyone benefits here, not just cancer patients and survivors.

There are 95 Wilkes Countians on the cancer patient/survivor log. The Relay For Life Survivor Committee is working diligently to identify those whose names are not yet on this list. RFLhonors those living with cancer. "We don't want to miss anyone," says Tena Blakey, Survivor Chairman.

Relay For Life is truly about a community that takes up the fight against cancer. The invaluable commitment of our corporate sponsors and the commitment of the Washington Wilkes community to Relay For Life gives us all hope, especially those of us with cancer.

The Relay For Life for Washington Wilkes is scheduled for May 4, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., at the Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation Track.

Make plans to be there to honor and memorialize those whose lives have been touched with cancer.
