Rev. Sherman "Skip" Padgett, pastor of Robinson Baptist Church, preached Sunday, March 18, at Phillips Mill Baptist Church, filling in for pastor Rev. Robert Rayner who has recently been feeling poorly and still trying to go. Hopefully he will feel stronger soon. Your prayers will be appreciated. Sincere sympathy to Mrs. Padgett who recently lost her mother. She was a very likable and friendly lady. ..Phillips Mill Baptist Church plans to have an Easter egg hunt on Saturday morning, March 31, from 10:30 to noon. Anyone who can help and be present please contact Angie Roth. We will pre-wrap candies to go in plastic eggs. Parents' input will be greatly appreciated. ..Sandy Cross Baptist Church near Crawfordville plans homecoming April 15. That's the Sunday following Easter. So all interested in attending, please feel welcome and mark it on your calendar. ..Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Claudelle Norman Bonner of Washington. She was a sister of Alma Lunceford O'Neal of Phillips Mill Baptist Church and Mary Boldin of Augusta. Many in our area have fond memories of their parents, Leon Bolton Norman and Susie Lillian Lunceford Norman. Claudelle's husbands, Coley T. Pettus and Sam Bonner, were both nice men and preceded her in death. It was always a joy to meet up with them. ..Lee Maxwell of Atlanta spent the weekend with his family, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, sister, Mary Jane Scarborough, and nephew, Tyler. He came especially to attend the Kiwanis Talent Show where Tyler took part. Saturday morning, Morrison's sugar had dropped to 35, so the family carried him to Wills Memorial Hospital where he was well treated and brought back home. It's so good to have a hospital nearby and caring doctors and nurses. So, I want to beg and encourage all of you living in Wilkes County to please think seriously how much it means to have our local hospital and how much we all need to support keeping it and updating things. ..Thanks to all who had a part in making the Kiwanis Club's 25th Talent Showcase Friday night a success. It is wonderful how so many businesses and individuals support different events with encouragement to young and old and all in between. There were 15 young people who tried out. The first one to perform in the show was Brittney Byrd of Phillips Mill Baptist Church singing "To God Be the Glory." It was her first time singing on stage and she didn't seem afraid. She kept her sweet smile and sang from her little heart. Tyler Maxwell Scarborough, also of Phillips Mill, sang "Down On the Farm" dressed as a cowboy. Others who attended church at Phillips Mill and live in our area were Fallon Lorraine West who sang "Suds in the Bucket: and Isaiah Greer who played "Sweet Child of Mine" on his guitar. Before the talent show began a presentation of awards was given to art contest winners. Everyone had a chance to see many paintings on display on a long table. My eyes caught the paintings done by Paige McAvoy and her sister Erin, children of Leslie and Kerry McAvoy Jr., of our community.
