Thank you Commissioner Sam Moore and the Wilkes County Sheriff's Department for having the trash picked up out on the Tignall Road. If we just had a system where bells and whistles would sound every time a piece of trash was thrown out and the culprits could be prosecuted!! ..The 2007 General Assembly is in its final days and it looks like in the nay column are the following:

Gas pipelines. It seems that the pipeline company was of the opinion that if cities and counties can be restricted in using their power of eminent domain, so should utilities that want to bypass state regulations and lay more pipelines around the state. SB 173 would have opened the door to abuse of private property rights. They got this one right.

English as the official language. Supporters of HR 413 want a constitutional amendment and say it is needed to promote assimilation. But it's really aimed at making life tougher on illegal immigrants. And why not? At the same time it tells legal immigrants who have gained citizenship that they're less of a citizen than the rest of us. Not. When you move to another country, you learn their language! ..I do it every year. I put away winter clothes thinking spring has sprung. Then what happens? Winter comes back again and I have to go digging out some sweaters to wear before spring comes back to stay awhile. I guess I'm in a hurry for spring and summer. ..I hope everyone in this area has noticed our newly renovated Tignall sign at the entrance to the town on the south side. Dave Keener did a wonderful job of dressing up our sign and we are very proud of it. ..Visiting with Kay and Alex Tyler were Gena Tyler, Jordan, Caleb and Sydney of Hoschton. Greg couldn't be with them as he is in Singapore and the Philippines at this time. Also visiting with the Tylers Saturday afternoon were Carolyn Gammon and Kara and Kaci Gammon. Kara, Kaci and Sydney enjoyed getting together and having a tea party. ..Carolyn Gammon enjoyed the Kiwanis Club's 25th Annual Talent Show Friday night. Her granddaughters, Kara and Kaci Gammon, were with the Washington Dance Academy who entertained during intermission. There are some very talented young people in this county. I would hate to have been one of the judges. ..Congratulations to Nancy and David Hilley on the birth of a grandson, Owen Christian Hilley, on Monday, March 12. He weighed 7 lbs. and 10 oz. The proud parents are Stacey and Amanda Hilley of Commerce. ..Mary Will Denard attended the pinning ceremony at Augusta Tech in Thomson for Tanner Guinn. There were 19 nurses receiving their pins for becoming Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN.) Others attending this ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Tanner, Teresa Tanner, Lauren Guinn, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Tanner and Emily, Tom Bridges, and Mrs. Terry Bridges. Congratulations, Tanner! ..Price Rogers of Evans spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ware. ..Those recovering from surgery are Ida Norman and Anna Brown. Let's keep them in our prayers as they continue to improve. ..We are glad to know that Rev. Albert Huyck, who has been under the weather, is doing all right now. ..There will be a senior adult lunch at Tignall Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 3, with Rev. Wayne Smith of Elberton entertaining with his humor. If you plan to attend, please contact Pat Bobo. ..Visiting with William Rhodes from Friday through Sunday were Ted and Mary Icon, Dylan and Matthew of Lakeland, Fla.; and Randy and Karen Rhodes and Taylor of Danielsville. Mary Icon is Mrs. Randy Rhodes' daughter. ..Sara Frances Henderson's son and grandson, Creight and John Henderson, of Beech Island, S.C., visited with her on Friday, and visiting Sara Frances on Saturday were her granddaughter and her husband, Katie and Jeff Goff of Jackson, S.C. You may have seen Jeff Goff on Channel 6 since he is a talented golfer and has won the golf tournament for the state of South Carolina. ..You have only one more week to get those recipes in for our "Tignall's Famous Recipes, Past and Present."
