W-W students participate in poetry, art competition
"River of Words" was founded in 1995 by United States Poet Laureate Robert Hass and writer Pamela Michael. Each year, in conjunction with the Library of Congress, Hass selects a poetry book of winning submissions from student work. Artwork is exhibited in art museums, libraries, and other venues worldwide. Through the poetry and artwork, these students help raise awareness and explore the significance of their natural and cultural history. "River of Words" awards eight grand prize winners with a free trip to Washington, D.C., where they are honored at an awards ceremony and luncheon at the Library of Congress.
"Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School is proud of our student entries and wishes them the best as each of them moves forward in the competition," said teacher Jennifer Atkinson.
