Greeters
It seems to me that it is unnecessary to have to appoint someone to greet folks when they enter the church and I'm not speaking of ushers which are necessary. Greeters maybe at Wal-Mart, but not the church, especially at the average church. Maybe it's okay at the big mega churches which are so impersonal as it is. The reason I say this is because greeting folks at church should come naturally and be done by all to all. We certainly need to teach our children to be friendly and hospitable, because the Lord knows there's enough superficial canned stuff as there is. We certainly don't need our emotions put in a can, if you know what I mean. In the past two decades everything the commercial-secular world does seems like some churches want to copy and get on the bandwagon, from Hollywood style on down. But the Bible says, "Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed." Most commercial socalled friendly service is nothing but advertisement hype, so we don't need to follow their plan. A popular fast-food restaurant has advertised for years all about their friendly staff and I'm yet to find one that even comes close to the commercials. Then the stores have their greeters, and half the time I'm hunting the greeter to greet the greeter. They get tired of greeting folks that don't greet them back. It's just a front, because friendliness must come from the heart to be real. Greeting and being friendly must come naturally and it is not what Christians just do, but rather it's what they are or should be - not some plastic, superficial commercialized put on. I repeat: friendliness must come from the heart. It must be a way of life instilled in you from an early age. This man I know has been a real Christian greeter for 50 or 60 years, long before they called it that and he was never appointed by man. "Brother, would you put on your friendly cap today and greet folks?" No. God appointed this brother. He would go around and greet everyone at every service without fail. His appointment was given to him by God way back at an old rough altar of prayer when God gloriously saved his soul and put a friendly smile on his face and a love for folks in his heart.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that's what real greeting and being a greeter is all about.
