Wilkes Co. Republicans meet; select officers and delegates
Also, Lee C. Benedict Jr. announced his candidacy for the Georgia Senate District 24 seat, which will become vacant when the incumbent, Senator Jim Whitehead, qualifies to run for the Tenth District Congressional seat left vacant due to Congressman Charlie Norwood's death. Tommy C. Young, past county chairman, did not run for re-election this year and former treasurer James O. Callaway was unanimously elected new chairman. Dr. Joseph B. Harris, vice-chairman, and Carmen Young, secretary-treasurer, were reelected. The Tenth Congressional District Republican Party Convention will convene at 10 a.m. at the Classic Center in Athens on April 21, 2007. It was also announced that the Georgia Republican Party Convention will be at the Gwinnett County Civic Center in Duluth, Georgia, on Friday, May 18, 2007. Delegates elected to attend both conventions were Rev. Roy Cates, James O. Callaway, Tommy C. Young, and Carmen Young. Louise Burt, Cindy R. Bounds, and Dr. Joseph Harris were elected alternate delegates.
