FBC offers scholarship available to fine arts students from Wilkes

The First Baptist Church of Washington invites any high school or college student who is a resident of Wilkes County and is majoring in or intends to major in the area of fine arts to apply for the Troupe M. Harris, Jr. Scholarship for the 2007- 2008 academic year.

The scholarship may be used to assist with tuition, books, board, instrument rental, and/or incidental expenses of education.

Basic requirements for consideration are (1) applicant must embody and exhibit excellent Christian character;

(2) applicant must have been a resident of Wilkes County for five years and a resident of Wilkes County as of high school graduation date;

(3) applicant must have declared major in the area of fine arts to include music, art, or drama, or any degree program related to such areas of interest (e.g., music education, music therapy, church music, art education, etc.); and

(4) applicant shall possess academic average no lower than 85 for high school study or undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 and SAT score no lower than 900.

Applications will be evaluated on the basis of superior academic evaluations of studies in music or fine arts area; overall academic grades; letters of recommendation and financial need.

Applications, along with two letters of recommendation from high school teachers, counselors, fine arts teachers or college professors and an official (sealed) transcript from high school or college, should be mailed to Troupe M. Harris Jr. Scholarship Committee, First Baptist Church of Washington, P.O. Box 603, Washington, Ga. 30673, no later than May 4.
