Jackson Armour, son of Tracy and Denise Armour, brought his show season to an end at the Washington Area Steer and Heifer Show where his heifer was first in its weight class and Reserve Champion in the "Other Breeds" category. Jackson also participated in the Junior National Livestock 4-H & FFA Livestock Show in Perry where he placed third with his heifer.
Jackson worked with his animals throughout the year to prepare for these two events. Preparation included daily care and feeding and participating in other local shows.
This a project that the whole family gets involved in, according to Marcie Simpson, County Extension Coordinator. "As a result of their participation, the competing youth gained character traits including responsibility, caring and fairness," she said. In addition, they practiced numerous life skills including teamwork, self motivation, self esteem, contribution to group effort, critical thinking, decision making, learning to learn, goal setting, cooperation and communication.
