Breckyn Hudson advances to state Kiwanis Showcase

Breckyn Hudson (at left) performed "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" and took top honors at the 25th annual Washington Kiwanis Club Talent Showcase. She will now advance to represent Washington- Wilkes in the state Talent Showcase to be held later this spring.

In other divisions, Brittney Byrd, who sang "To God be the Glory," was presented the first place trophy for grades K-2 by Kiwanis President Bill Steed.

Leslie Souther (below, left) won the grades 3-5 division with her performance of "Suds in the Bucket," which she also sang at the annual 4- H Club banquet.

In grades 6-8, the sister duo of Dixie Lee and Katie Trimm (below, right) won first place with "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better," another performance that carried over to the 4-H banquet.

A total of 14 acts were on the program for the Talent Showcase.

In the Art Showcase, winners were: C. Daniel Slaton, K-2; Katie Trimm, 3-5; Brittany McMahon, 6- 8; and Megan Churning, 9-12.
