Zaxby's opening later this month to create '40 to 50' jobs for cooks, cashiers in Wilkes

The new Zaxby's expected to open later this month in Washington will create an additional 40 to 50 jobs in the area, said Zaxby's District manager Ted Lisowski.

He and General Manager James Owens say the 40 to 50 "team members" will consist primarily of cooks and cashiers. "The key to success at Zaxby's is a great smile and a willingness to learn and grow," said Owens. "We're a different kind of restaurant with a different kind of attitude - from the food and service we provide to our customers, to the respect we provide to each other."

The Athens-based chain has been advertising in Augusta and Athens for managers for the Washington store. Owens was previously an assistant manager of the Thomson Zaxby's before being promoted to general manager of the new Washington restaurant.

Located at 1011 E. Robert Toombs Ave., the new restaurant is approximately 3,200 square feet and will seat 72 in Zaxby's trademark design, with vintage memorabilia and signage. The restaurant will also offer drive-thru services.

"We are excited to introduce Zaxby's to the residents of Wilkes County," said Lisowski. "Zaxby's will be a great new option for families and friends to gather for lunch or dinner."

The new location will be the first for Wilkes County and the 159th for the Peach State. Zaxby's currently operates more than 375 locations in 10 states throughout the Southeast - Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
