Pitch hospital's regeneration proposal
Marvin Goldman, CEO of Wills Memorial Hospital (right), was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club at its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 3. He was introduced by the Larry Burton, chairman of the Wills Memorial Hospital Authority. Goldman outlined the hospital's fundraising proposal which would consist of issuing taxexempt bonds underwritten by the Wilkes County Board of Commissioners - if approved. He explained the 52-month regeneration detailed plan to upgrade the 1961 structure that is estimated to cost about $18 million. He also indicated that some portions of the current structure are in good condition and would remain, including the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), ER (Emergency Room) and Radiology. Goldman and Burton strongly stressed to members the need for support of the regeneration plan. Steve deShazo was the program host for the day.
