Thomas William Combs Funeral services for Thomas William Combs, 71, of Washington were held Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Smyrna United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig Yoshihara and Rev. Kathy Lamon officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died March 28 in the Veterans Administration Hospital. Mr. Combs was a native of Wilkes County and was the son of the late Acton Combs and Essie Echols Combs. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5899, and served in the United States Navy. Survivors include his wife, Sara McKee Combs of Washington; two daughters, Dana Mirza of Greensboro, and Sonya Combs, Mt. Airy; a son, Tommy Combs, Washington; two sisters, Bernice McAvoy, Washington, and Marion Poss, Rayle; five grandchildren, Celia Wolfe, John Epps, Cameo Wilbanks, Ralph Autry and Randal Epps; and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearears included Ronnie McAvoy, Kenneth Poss, Keith McAvoy, Reggie Galbreath, Greg Fanning, and Everett Hardy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Marshall Garrett, 3262 Lincolnton Rd., Washington 30673.
