Lois Echols Rutherford

Funeral services for Lois Echols Rutherford, 89, of Union Point were held Friday, March 30, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Union Point with Rev. Leonard Ezell and Rev. David Key officiating. Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery. She died Tuesday, March 27, at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.

Mrs. Rutherford was a native of Oglethorpe County and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Tolbert Echols and Frances Elizabeth Walker Echols. She was the widow of James Thomas Rutherford. She was employed at Union Manufacturing Co. in Union Point which later became Chipman Union, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Union Point where she taught Sunday School and served as a leader in GA's. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Union Point Garden Club, and a founding board member of the Union Point Community Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail Rutherford Lindsey and her husband Gene of Union Point; two sisters, Marjorie Tyler and Gertrude Tyler of Washington; two brothers, David Austin Echols of Philomath, and Elliott Echols of White Sulfur Springs, W.V.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kathi and Brian Smoker of North Augusta, and Donna and Benjie Edwards of Washington; a grandson and his wife, Dee and Susan Lindsey of Union Point; and eight great-grandchildren.

McCommons Funeral Home of Greensboro was in charge of arrangements.
