B-team splits in two games, plays again Monday at 4:30

The W-W Tiger B-team split its last two games, both of which were played at Tiger field. On Monday, March 26, the Tigers shutout Oglethorpe County's Patriots after a single bad inning cost them the game against a strong team of Thomson Bulldogs the previous Saturday.

Kelley Roberts did a good job of pitching against the strong bats of Thomson but those strong bats, combined with some fielding mishaps by the Tigers, allowed the Bulldogs to get a big jump on the Tigers, 6-1, in the first innings. After that, W-W settled down and outplayed Thomson for the rest of the game, but it was not enough to overcome that disappointing first inning.

The score remained unchanged through the second and third innings as the strong B-team defense supported Roberts' strikeouts. Each team added a run in the fourth and D.J. Barnett came on in relief to record a strikeout in the fifth.

Barnett continued through the end of the game chalking up another strikeout while allowing the defense to hold Thomson to just one more run. The Tigers worked hard but just couldn't make up for the first inning and the final score was posted at 8- 4.

Barnett also led the offense with a three-hit performance including two doubles. Graham Echols and a hit and a walk and Roberts smacked a triple in the sixth inning. Zach Murray got a pair of hits and a walk and Preston Hardin stroked a second sixth-inning triple. Clint Echols connected on a double whil Lee Thompson and Spencer Swinson was drew walks.

Echols pitched a two-hitter shutout against the Oglethorpe Patriots on Monday but no other details were reported.

A game against the GMC Bulldogs scheduled for last Friday, March 28, was postponed. The next game for the B-team will be a home field encounter on Monday, April 9, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
