'Dig History' archaeology camp registration open for area kids

Registration is open for the 2007 session of "Dig History," the archaeology summer camp for kids at Hickory Hill in Thomson, Georgia.

In "Dig History," campers learn about the field of archeology, with experiments and activities to engage their interest and give them handson practice with archeological methods and techniques. The children will learn survey, map, and compass skills, excavation, and flint knapping. The camp is a great opportunity for kids with an interest in archaeology, history, science, and being outdoors.

"Dig History" is a day camp. The cost is $50 per child and includes daily snacks, equipment, and activities. Please bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. The camps run for five days, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Camp dates are June 11-15, and July 9-13.

Each camp will be held at Hickory Hill, 502 Hickory Hill Drive, in Thomson. Call toll-free 877-595- 9777 or email hickorymuseum @bellsouth.net for information and registration.

The camp is sponsored by the Watson-Brown Foundation, Inc., committed to education and historic preservation.
