Thanks to all who were able and willing to get out in the cold windy weather Easter Sunday morning for the early service which is always a special time for many at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. I did not get out that early but I understand they all agreed quickly to stay inside the building. Brandon Waller and Tyler Scarborough sang "To God Be the Glory" before Rev. Robert Rayner, pastor, spoke. Thanks to all who had a part in the nice breakfast that followed. Sunday School attendance was more and increased for the special Easter worship service and dedication of the new stained glass windows. I hope to have a more detailed report of the dedication service next week. Sorry I was unable to this week. It was wonderful. ..Don't forget coming up this Sunday, April 15, will be homecoming day at nearby Sandy Cross Baptist Church. A special day for members, former members, and interested friends. Guest speaker will be a former pastor, Rev. John Marshall King of Monroe. He is looking forward to coming and appreciates the invitation very much. The church and pastor, Rev. Ken Carbalho, and his wife Susan extend a hearty welcome and will be looking forward to seeing you. ..The home of Nell Dunn Shedd came alive Easter Sunday as all three of her daughters and most of their families gathered for lunch and funtime together which included all the afternoon and evening meal. They were Barbara Davis and her daughter Amber; Nina and her husband Posey and sons, Jacob and Alexander; Laura West, her children, Valerie, and her husband DJ Wheeler, Mason and Mattie; Tracey and one of his friends and Hope; Karen Bowen and children, Roy, Trey, and Sara. They were happy to have Nell's sister-in-law, Shirley Mann Dunn, her son Rodney, and his friend Amy to join them. They missed Barbara's husband Ken and Karen's husband TJ who were sick.

..The home of Dan and Mildred Nunn McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy also came alive as they enjoyed having all of their other children, Dorothy Ann and Jimmie, Curtis and Linda, Donnie and Claudia, all their children and grandchildren as they gathered during the afternoon. Many of them also attended the funeral of their uncle, Tom Hardy of Beaverdam Baptist Church, who was married to one of Mildred's twin sisters, Dorothy Nunn, who makes her home in Wilkes Health Care. ..Sympathy is extended to the family of Tom Hardy who passed away during the weekend or just before. He will be greatly missed at Beaverdam Baptist Church. He was a brother of Gussie Hardy McAvoy and uncle of Thomas McAvoy Jr. and Carroll Hardy of Phillips Mill and related to many others in the area. ..Churches of the Georgia Baptist Association please keep in mind the upcoming annual spring meeting to be held with Beaverdam Baptist Church on Tuesday night, April 24, 7:30-9 p.m. Pastor Rev. John McMillian, his wife Peggy, and church members are excited. ..It's always nice to get surprises. This past week I received a nice surprise from a longtime friend, Jackie Nash Alazawi of Duluth. We grew up at Phillips Mill together. I have mentioned to her a number of times about she was the only girl I could remember coming to Sunday School with lace around the top of her socks and thought it was something and that girl must be rich. She was rich with love and could sing so pretty. Well, guess what. She still remembers me talking about her socks. Would you believe she went to a church thrift store recently and found a pair of white nylon socks with lace that look like they have never been worn. I haven't tried them on yet. But they made my day. Thanks, Jackie. She enjoys reading The News-Reporter. ..Don't forget. God loves you.
