Some of those Easter duds had to be left in the closet last Sunday. I understand that Easter Sunday was colder here than it was on Christmas Day. Let's hope spring will come back again soon. Jeff Tyler called his parents, Kay and Alex Tyler, from Vermont where he was spending Easter with friends. He said they were hiding baskets of eggs in the snow for the children there. ..In looking at an old Washington Reporter of September 19, 1912, I found the advertisements were a little different than they are today. For one thing, cardui was advertised as the woman's tonic to keep women from having spells. It must not have worked because I haven't seen any on the drug store shelves today. Also advertised were men's suits for $5.98 and feather beds. Fifty years from now someone may be laughing at our ads, so maybe you should preserve a paper for this future use. ..The North Wilkes Steering Committee met last Thursday night at the Tignall Lunchroom and worked on putting their cookbook together. They will meet again one more time before the book will be ready to print. They are extending your time for recipes. If you have a recipe that you would like to submit and haven't done so, be sure you get that recipe to one of the committee members before the next meeting on April 26. ..Having Easter dinner with Nonie and John Yochim were David and Michelle McAvoy, and Charlie, Morgan and Tim Echols, Vivian Wolozin, Aubrey and Blake Davis, and Kathy and Dale Robertson of Dacula. ..Beulah Baptist Church had an Easter egg dyeing party for children 3-10 years of age at the church on Saturday morning, April 7. They have three sides up on their Family Life Center and hope to have the building completed by August 12 when the church will celebrate its bicentennial. At the bicentennial, Squire Parson, who wrote "Beulah Land," will be there to perform a musical testimony. ..Kay and Alex Tyler had dinner Saturday night, April 7, honoring the birthdays of Alex Tyler, Allen Tyler, and Charles Tyler who all had birthdays within a week of each other. Those celebrating with Kay and Alex were Allen and Fay Tyler of Washington; Charles and Andrea Tyler, Garrett and Jacob of Bethlehem; Mildred Tyler; Greg and Gena Tyler, Jordan, Caleb, and Sydney of Hoschton. Having dinner together on Sunday, April 8, with Kay and Alex were Greg and Gena Tyler, Jordan, Caleb, and Sydney, Craig and Sandra Gammon, Curt, Kara and Kaci, and Richard and Carolyn Gammon. The children enjoyed yet another Easter egg hunt. ..About 36 senior adults enjoyed the luncheon and the humor of Rev. Wayne Smith of Elberton Tuesday, April 3. Carolyn and Ronald Snider came with Tommie and Jack Heard. Everyone was so glad to see Carolyn looking so well. ..Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Bobo attended the Georgia Cattlemen's Association annual convention in Perry last weekend. On Thursday night, the Wilkes County Cattlemen received a check for $200 for the "June Beef Month Award." Sunday they attended Easter services with Pat's family in Bainbridge and enjoyed the choir's Easter cantata, "Then Came the Morning." Sunday night they enjoyed an Easter get-together with Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bobo and friends in McDonough. ..Having lunch Sunday with Scott and Kathy Ware and Stacey were Paul Vandiver of Union Point; Zack and Jennifer Etheridge, Mikey and Austin, of Greensboro; John Cook of Alto; Carol Collins of Baldwin; and Donald and Peggy Ware. ..Spending Thursday through Sunday with Donald and Peggy Ware were John Cook of Alto and Carol Collins of Baldwin. ..Ernest and Fay Lamar had a big family dinner at their home Sunday. Spending the day with them were Rev. and Mrs. John McMillian, pastor of Beaverdam; Rick and Rosie Maxwell, and Marie Maxwell, Rob and Kim Moore of Crawfordville; Ivo and Teresa Meijerink and Elise of Watkinsville; Tommy and Phyllis Norman, Greg and Tammy Norman, Casey and Dylan, Kirby and Norma Reed of Martinez; Lee and Lisa Morrison of Martinez; William Morrison, Edna Lamar, Brian and Tracey Beggs, Hadley Beggs and Erin Thornton, Bruce and Gretchen Lamar and Alex. ..Dave and Tody Derrick spent Sunday with Mike and Sharon Derrick, David and Michael in Loganville. ..Mallorysville Baptist Church had its annual Easter sunrise service followed by a breakfast. The morning worship service included the Easter cantata. ..Taking 32 Tignall Baptist teenagers to Six Flags last Wednesday were Troy and Carol McTier, Josh and Lacey Fincher, Allison Rogers, Ann Harrison, Karen Saggus, and Cissy Smith. I understand that Six Flags was a booming place last week with many schools having spring break. ..Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Maney during the Easter weekend were the following: grandson Clay Kidder of Elloree, S.C.; daughter, Debra Smith, and grandsons, Jelani and Morris Smith of Conyers. ..Some of us out at Tignall were blindsided by the decision of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) to discontinue distribution of their paper to this area. Last Monday, all of the AJC boxes around town were empty (puzzled); Tuesday, once again, all of the boxes around town were empty,) again, puzzled;) Wednesday, AJC boxes removed from all locations in Washington (in tears and panic stricken.) After placing a call to the AJC we were informed that small towns would no longer have in-home deliveries or deliveries to their boxes around town (Elberton was not an option either.) Then, after reading The Office Cat in The News-Reporter, and reading of Bolton Lunceford's disappointment of this decision, reality set in. Some of us grew up with that newspaper, even having it delivered to their childhood home right here in Tignall. It is still quite a blow and how could we here in Wilkes County be dismissed like that? I'm ready to take to the streets and picket in front of the newspaper! ..We have people in our area who are ill and need our prayers and thoughts. If you are ill, or a loved one, neighbor or friend, let us know so we can add your name to our prayer chain. We don't know if you don't keep us informed. ..Zack Johnson certainly made the game proud with his win at The Masters Sunday. He was very emotional when he was interviewed and credited his faith and family with his success. What a champion! Our son saw him a few years ago when he won the BellSouth event and was pulling for him all the way. ..Who left the door open and let all this cold air in? Where are you Spring?
