Thomas Edward Hardy

Graveside services for Thomas Edward Hardy, 81, of Washington were held Sunday, April 8, 2007, in Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, with Rev. John McMillian officiating. He died Thursday, April 5, in Wills Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hardy was a native of Wilkes County and the son of the late Lester Hardy and Sara Norman Hardy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired from Colonial Food Stores. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and an adult Sunday School teacher for more than 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Nunn Hardy; a son and daughter in-law, Joe and Debra Hardy, Washington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Pete Grimaud and Audrey and Henry Barnett, all of Washington; a sister, Gussie McAvoy, Washington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers included Christopher Bentley, Joseph Gaynor Hardy, Mike Hardy, Len Hardy, Pete Grimaud, and Henry Barnett. Members of the Beaverdam Adult Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
