Joe Wilkinson

Graveside services for Joe Wilkinson, 81, were held Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Black Rock AME Church Cemetery, Tignall, with Rev. James Lawson officiating. He died April 3 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mr. Wilkinson was a native of Wilkes County and was the son of the late James Henry and Ionia Wilkinson. He worked for Burt Lumber Co. for 30 years and for Jack Leard for 12 years.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Wilkinson; a son, Joe Wilkinson Jr.; a step-daughter, Yvette Wilkinson; three sisters, Othella Gartrell, Carolyn Farmer, and Louise McCray; six brothers, Alfred Wilkinson, Robert Wilkinson, Leroy Wilkinson, James Henry Wilkinson Jr., Norris Wilkinson, and Roger Lee Wilkinson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Davenport & McLendon Mortuary Inc. of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
