Greensboro's Southland Jubilee set for Saturday

Mark your calendars for the Southland Jubilee from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. this Saturday, April 21, in downtown Greensboro.

The ninth annual Southland Jubilee will feature fun for the entire family with a heritage arts show, live entertainment, home-cooked food, children's activities, agricultural exhibits, a classic car show and antique tractors.

Organizers plan for more than sixty vendors to line Main Street in downtown Greensboro. Vendors will offer handmade items such as pottery, baskets, soaps, candles, glassware, textiles, and woodcrafts. In addition, downtown merchants will host special sidewalk sales for the Jubilee.

"We have a great group of vendors planning to show their work and demonstrate at the Southland Jubilee," said Cail Hammons, festival chairman. "There will be potters, artists, quilters, and wood crafters with handmade works available to purchase."

Visitors can see a live pottery throwing demonstration, watch a blacksmith at work, see quilters stitch a cathedral window quilt, watch a weaver use a loom to create handmade rugs, and learn about life during the revolutionary and civil wars from soldier re-enactors.

The day will close with the Jubilee Parade at 4 p.m. The parade will feature floats from organizations across the community decorated with the theme "The Spirit of Greene County".

Spectators should note that the parade route has changed from past years. This year's parade will leave from the Greene County Board of Education parking area and move north along Main Street. From there, the parade will turn left onto Broad Street and right onto West Street. Then the parade will turn right onto Greene Street and proceed past the review platform before turning right onto East Street and returning to the line-up area.

The Southland Jubilee promises to be a day of family fun for all of Greene County and the surrounding area. The popular event is made possible in part by following sponsors: Reynolds Plantation & The Ritz-Carlton Lodge; Publix Supermarkets, Inc.; Peachtree Pest Control Company, Inc.; Novelis Corp.; GreenSouth Equipment Co.; BankSouth; Lake Oconee Community Bank; Bug House of Lake Oconee; NIBCO, Inc.; The Farmer's Bank; Quail International, Inc.; Rayle EMC; McDonald's, MERMC, Inc; and Al's Roofing.

The Southland Jubilee is produced by Greensboro's Better Hometown Program with the help of volunteers from across the community. For more information about the event, call 706-453-7592 or visit www.southlandjubilee.com.
