What a beautiful day the Lord hath made! We have really rejoiced in the spring and the beautiful flowers that have been prettier this year than ever. We got our little cold spell that we always have at Easter time. It was an unusual cold that froze a lot of things that we had covered up. Blackberry winter will be here soon. The wind really blew hard Sunday and it was cold, too. ..Rev. Skip Padgett brought a wonderful message at Sardis Baptist Church Sunday morning. Rebecca Echols was pianist with Pam Hall leading the singing. Joyce Fry held children's church in the annex and Nina Boatwright was in charge of the nursery. Prayer meeting is held every Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the Echols home. ..Continuing on the prayer list is Ralph Smith, Bonnie Boatwright, Ruth Flynt, Ann Williamson, Mablean Sherrer, Carla Thaxton Brown, Richard Burkett, Pete Hardy, Pete Poss, Kathryn Padgett, Debra Cato, Roberta Roper, Carole Morgan, Ellie Frey, Bonnie Huff Coile, Bonnie Creel, Doug Mathews, Katie Canup Glowka, Gary Rogers, Mike Webb, Baby Christina, Leonard Fain, Fred Scoggins, Stephanie Chapman, Marshall Sherrer, Brent Sherrer, Chris McAvoy, Bill Remsen, Betsy Wynne, Pat Wynne, Tommy Wheatley, Thomas Wheatley, Thomas Bunch, Kim Abrams, Lindley Hall, Joe Bufford, Hunter Boswell, Bernice McAvoy, Mike Woodall, Joyce Bowen, Tom Bufford, Dorothy Callaway, Doug Mathews, the Frys' daughter, and Wilda Boatwright. ..We were sorry to learn that Ralph Smith of the Silver Leaf home in Athens has fallen and broken his hip. Our prayers are that he will have a quick and complete recovery. ..I received bad news Monday morning of last week when my doctor in Athens called with the results of the test of last week. I have a stage two cancer of one part of the larynx and one vocal cord. It is expected that the radiation will be the only course of treatment and the prognosis is very good. I am scheduled for a PET scan Wednesday, so please pray that it will be good. J.W. and I went to Athens Thursday to my doctor. Martha Jones accompanied us and later treated us to dinner at the Cracker Barrel. Friday we were back in Athens to visit the radiation clinic and the oncologist. Frankie Jones of Athens and Martha Jones of Bogart accompanied us there. Afterwards J.W. and I ate dinner at the Red Lobster and were surprised to see Allen and Dot Steens there and to chat a bit. ..Other visitors have been Johnny Boatwright, Kay Berry, Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson, Ann Wideman, Peggy Echols and Jack and Rubye Armour. ..Jane Bailey came down from Bogart Thursday and spent the day with her mother, Ruth Flynt, and took her to the doctor. Jane was also here with her mother last Sunday, Peggy Echols visited Ruth Friday afternoon. ..J.W. and I visited Carole Morgan at the Winterville Retirement Center Friday afternoon. Carole is recuperating nicely after surgery. I also visited Ruth Flynt Monday afternoon and again on Thursday afternoon. ..Barry and Dana Echols of Ball Ground spent the weekend here at the homeplace. J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright visited them there. ..Karen Bowen, Roy, Trey, and Sara enjoyed Easter Sunday with her mother, Nell Shedd in Tyrone. Many other family members were there to enjoy the Easter fun and festivities. ..Newtown Baptist Church had a wonderful day Easter Sunday with breakfast, a service, and an Easter egg hunt. Winning prizes at the egg hunt were Reese Carroll, first; Mathew Carroll, second; and Zach Gregg, third. ..Mike and Sarah Carroll, Reese and Mathew, entertained at an Easter supper Sunday night at their home for David Randall, Margie Randall, James Randall, and Wayne and Marie Beebe. ..Mrs. Mildred Sisson recently enjoyed a Saturday afternoon visit by Mr. and Mrs. David Sisson and Jessica of Douglasville; Mrs. Nell McAvoy, and a friend of Jessica. ..After enjoying a two-week visit with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sisson Jr. in Madison, Ala., Mrs. Mildred Sisson returned home last Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wheatley who had arrived Saturday for Easter with the Sissons. ..Y'all have a good week.
