Outdoor burning restricted here due to extremely dry conditions

Due to the extremely dry conditions in the Wilkes County area, The Georgia Forestry Commission is requesting that, until conditions improve, residents refrain from doing any outdoor burning.

Several large fires have blackened thousands of acres in the South Georgia area and one has burned more than 10,000 acres alone.

There has been a drain on Georgia Forestry Commission manpower and equipment in the Wilkes County area because some have been assigned to assist with the efforts in South Georgia.
