CRCT takers rewarded with dance; fund-raisers will aid Relay for Life
W-WMS has completed the CRCT testing and the busy last month of school begins. All students attending each day of the CRCT and putting forth their best effort were rewarded with a dance on Friday afternoon from 1:40 until 3:00 p.m. The W-WMS yearbooks are in and they look great. All students that purchased yearbooks were invited to a yearbook signing party on Monday, April 23. At that time, students enjoyed seeing their yearbooks for the first time and started their traditional yearbook signings. Next school year is fast approaching and to give students a heads up as to what to expect, eighth grade and fifth grade students are visiting their next campus. Eighth grade students toured the high school campus on April 25. Upcoming sixth grade students will tour the middle school campus on May 9, while their parents will be invited to attend a meeting at the middle school on May 8 at 6 p.m. As preparation for the next school year, Band Director Jeff Thomas will be visiting fifth graders at Washington- Wilkes Elementary School for band recruitment on April 26. On April 24, all middle school students that participated in basketball, wrestling, baseball, track, and gold were invited to the "Breakfast of Champions" in the cafeteria. The middle school is very proud of all their young athletes and wanted to take time to honor them for their hard work. W-WMS's Student Council and Beta Club will be busy raising money for "Relay for Life." These two clubs will have two different fund-raisers going on. The week of April 30, faculty and staff members can pay $5.00 a day to wear jeans or "dress down." The clubs will also sponsor an ice cream social on Friday May 5. The ice cream social is a fund-raiser for "Relay for Life." Tickets will be sold for $3. Each ticket holder will be allowed to attend the ice cream party and build his own sundae.
Two students have been selected from each grade level for student of the month. The students selected must have a positive attitude, a strong desire to learn, excellent behavior, and a willingness to help others. The following students have been chosen: for the sixth grade, Kelsey Brooke and Jonathan Wood; seventh grade, Brandon Dill and Hannah Ward; eighth grade, Shakeya Hulin and Shanta Nash. Congratulations to these students.
