Archaeology camp's registration open for area kids to 'Dig History' Cultures hundreds even thousands of years ago left clues about their lives for modern scientists to discover - how they lived, what they ate, how they hunted, even what types of clothing they wore. The Watson-Brown Foundation is inviting students to "discover the Intrigue of the Past" through the science of archaeology in its "Dig History" camps this summer. Registration is open for the 2007 session of Dig History, the archaeology summer camp for kids at Hickory Hill in Thomson. During the sessions, campers will learn about the field of archeology with experiments and activities designed to engage their interest and give them hands-on practice with archeological methods and techniques. They will have the opportunity to learn survey, map, and compass skills; excavation; and flint knapping. This is a great opportunity for kids with an interest in archaeology, history, science, and being outdoors. Dig History is a day camp. The cost is $50 per child and includes daily snacks, equipment, and activities. Campers are asked to bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. The camps run for 5 days, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Camp dates for 2007 are June 11- 15, July 9-13, and July 23-27. Camps are held at Hickory Hill, 502 Hickory Hill Drive, in Thomson, Georgia. Call toll-free 877-595- 9777 or email hickorymuseum @bellsouth.net for information and registration.
Dig History is sponsored by the Watson-Brown Foundation, Inc., committed to education and historic preservation.
