Gunby recognized for work with 2006 Youth Challenge
Almeisha is the daughter oif Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Jackson of Wa s h i n g t o n and is married to Sgt. Christopher E. Gunby of Lincolnton. They have a daughter, Madison Kristalyn. Along with three of her co-workers, Almeisha was recognized by the State of Georgia as the 2007 Public Employee Recognition Award winner in the category of leadership. The winners received this award due to their excellent organizational skills in planning the 2006 National Guard Youth Challenge Invitational in which Fort Stewart hosted more than 10 youth challenge academies in team competitions from other states. Some of these competitions in- cluded academic bowls, drill competitions, volleyball and softball. As one of the four people who helped organize this event, Almeisha was recognized as exemplifying and promoting outstanding leadership qualities and behavior. On May 1, Almeisha and her coworkers will receive their award at the World Congress Center in Macon. They have been submitted to the Georgia Merit System and will be competing at the state level in their respective categories. Youth Challenge is a 22-week National Guard residential run program that offers a structured military influenced training and mentoring program for at-risk youth. The program develops the life skills, educational levels, and employment potential of 16 to 18 year-old dropouts.
Georgia has two academies, one at Fort Stewart in Hinesville and one at Fort Gordon in Augusta.
