Our condolences go out to the family of Ralph Smith who passed away Thursday. Many from the community attended the visitation at Hopkins Funeral Home Friday night and the graveside service at Palmetta Christian Church Cemetery Saturday. Mr. Ralph lived to be 97 years old and lived life to the fullest helping others as long as he could. His family has our deepest sympathy. ..Sardis Baptist Church had George Pate as guest speaker Sunday morning. Courtney Gunter played the piano as Pam Hall led in the singing. Angela Armour held children's church in the annex with Rebekah Echols being in charge of the nursery. Prayer meeting is held every Wednesday evening at 6:30 at the Echols Home. ..J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright spent most of the day in Athens at the radiology clinic getting ready for her radiation treatments which will begin May 3, and at the cancer center of Athens Regional Medical Center for the PET scan. The results are not in yet. Bonnie's sister, Martha Jones of Bogart, accompanied them. Afterwards they went to the Red Lobster for lunch. ..On their way home, J.W. and Bonnie stopped in to see Carole Morgan at the Winterville Retirement Center. Carole is recuperating nicely from the surgery on her foot. We were sorry to learn that Carole's great nephew was one of the students killed in the Virginia Tech disaster. Jarrett Lane, who lived in Virginia, was only 22 years old and was to graduate in May. .. Barry and Dana Echols of Ballground and Aubrey and Kathryn Jackson of Mableton spent several days at the homeplace of the late Fred and Ann Corbett. Parker Echols of Valdosta State University also came for a visit. Visiting them were J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright, Charles and Nina Boatwright, Robert and Kathy Woodlief of Suwanee; and Dana's parents, Julien and Dona of Lappahaw. ..Our continuing prayer list is for Richard Byrd, Evelene Mathews Moon, Loyd Smith, Millie Mansfield, Tim Hayes, Frances Vinson, Bonnie Boatwright, Mablean Sherrer, Carla Thaxton Brown, Pete Hardy, Richard Burkett, Debra Cato, Mike Woodall, Roberta Roper, Carole Morgan, Ellie Frey, Betsy Wynne, Betty Wynne, Pat Wynne, Gary Rogers, Fred Scoggins, Bill Remsen, Bernice McAvoy, Joyce Bowen, Tom Bufford, Joe Bufford, Thomas Bunch, Bonnie Coile, Bonnie Creel, Pete Poss, Kathryn Padgett, Stephanie Chapman, Chris McAvoy, Mike Webb, Leonard Fain, Hunter Boswell, Dorothy Callaway, Marshall Sherrer, and Brent Sherrer. ..Ruth Flynt enjoyed having Gloria Hardy come for a visit with her Thursday morning. ..We were sorry about Sam Dooley of Richardson Road hitting a deer and messing up his nice pickup truck pretty bad. Sam had barely gotten out of the yard when the deer came charging out right into the side of him. There's no way to avoid them. They are so fast and so many people have had the same misfortune. .. Gene Winfrey, Buster Winfrey, James, David and Mathew Wideman visited George and Ann Wideman during the week. ..Ruby Arnold went to visitation at Hopkins Funeral Home Friday night and also attended the funeral service for Ralph Smith at Palmetta Christian Church Cemetery. ..Ruby Booth spent several days last week in Athens Regional Medial Center with a blood clot in her leg. Kim Berry spent Friday night at the hospital with her. Ruby Arnold spent the night with Aaliya while her mother was gone. ..Bonnie Boatwright's visitors have been James and Sharon Smith of Stephens; J.W. and Kathleen Canup of Lexington; Shirley Chafin, Doris Walker, Ruby Arnold, Johnny Boatwright, Joan Echols, Kay Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson Porter. ..Norman and Joan Echols have returned from a nine-day vacation trip to Pigeon Forge, Cherokee, N.C., Masasanutten, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Two days of the trip to Pigeon Forge were a gift from their children for their 50th wedding anniversary. They continued on to Massanutten, Virginia, to spend some time with their son and his family, Shane and Laurie Echols, Lauren, Victoria, and Julia. They had a fabulous time touring Washington, D.C., and other points of interest. ..Jennifer Glenn honored her daughters, Isihmi and Trinity, with a birthday party in Washington at the day care center. Guests were all the children who attended the day care and other guests. ..Rebecca Armour was honored on her tenth birthday with a dinner given by her parents, Chris and Heather Armour, and sisters, Amber and Raeleigh. Guests were Amber's friend, Jonathon Russell, Frances Fendley, Bobby and Debra Armour, Joann Perez, Richard Burkett, and John and Pam Polk. ..Scott and Sissy Smith, Abby and J.T., Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank, and Samantha enjoyed the day with Buck and Linda Echols Sunday. ..Peggy Echols enjoyed visiting her sister, Sybil Hayes, Sunday afternoon in Stephens. ..Jason Echols and Peggy Echols attended the funeral service of Ralph Smith Saturday at the Palmetta Christian Church Cemetery. ..Ann Williamson and Sudie Kennedy attended the graveside service for Ralph Smith Saturday at the Palmetta Christian Church Cemetery. ..Louise Smith and Lucile Edmonds of Anderson, S.C., spent from Thursday through Sunday with their sister, Doris Walker. ..Neil and Kim Frankel enjoyed Sunday dinner with Clyde and Sandy Whittington. Zachery remained on to spend the night with grandpa and grandma. Avery Hall was also visiting the Whittingtons Sunday afternoon while his little friend Zachery was there. ..Lee Parker was honored with a gettogether for his birthday at his home Sunday by his wife Shelley. Many friends and family members came to help him celebrate. ..Betty Berry accompanied her sister, Sybil Vaughn, Sunday to church at Burt's United Methodist Church. ..Bonnie Boatwright attended the Smith family reunion in the annex at Pentecost Chapel Sunday. Her sisters, Frankie Jones and Martha Jones, brother, James Smith, and nephew, Calvin Smith, joined Bonnie for the reunion. Sharon was a bit under the weather and did not get to come. They enjoyed seeing and being with relatives whom they see but once a year. Bonnie was especially glad to see Oscar Taylor who was a guest. Oscar lived in our community on the Callaway Road for many years.
