Evangelist Amethyst Wynn will be the special guest singer for next Thursday's observance of the National Day of Prayer. The local observance, led by Wilkes Ministers United, will be held at noon Thursday on The Square in Washington, and everyone is encouraged to come and take part, organizer Laura Toburen said. The U.S. Congress set aside the first Thursday in May as the National Day of Prayer in 1988 to encourage communities around the country to take time to pray for leaders and those in authority at the local, state, and national levels.
