Family celebration honors birthdays
Guests of honor were cousins, Ava Simmons, daughter of Robert and Tara Simmons, whose first birthday was March 6; Sydney McBride, daughter of Mel and Sunshine McBride of Marietta; who was four on March 17; and Wesley Pope, son of Susan and Edward Pope III, who was four on April 21. Also honored was "PaPa" Pembroke Pope III, who was 56 on April 4. Other family members honored but who could not be present were Edward Pope Jr., March 4, and Grey Cummins, son of Clint and Elizabeth Simmons Cummins, March 10. The birthday cake, made by Joyce Parton and decorated by Karen Saggus, featured a farm scene with a barn, chicken, cows and horses. It was served with chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Other refreshments included cocktail smokies, spinach dip, baked crab dip, eggplant dip, magic cookie bars and chocolate chip cookies.A fruity punch and an ice cream punch were also served. The house and porch were decorated with balloons and the children enjoyed an Easter egg hunt during the afternoon as well as swinging and jumping on the trampoline.
Thirty guests consisting of family and close friends were invited. Special guests were Pete Strother, Iris Dyson, Mary Ann Tutt and Billy Dunnaway.
