Elba III pipeline public hearing set for Monday night at 7 p.m.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting Monday night in Washington to discuss the draft environmental impact statement for the proposed Elba III pipeline project.

The public comment meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School cafeteria.

The meeting is part of the process by which the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission evaluates the request by Southern LNG, Inc. and Elba Express Company to prepare a statement on the environmental impact a pipeline might have going through the environmentally sensitive Broad River area.

Both oral comments at the meeting and written comments submitted by May 21 will be given consideration, the FERC's notice said. Anyone commenting will be asked to provide his name and address so that any project-related information can be mailed to all attendees, and transcripts of the public meeting will be placed into the public record.

The public comment meeting Monday night in Washington will be followed by similar meetings along the path of the proposed pipeline - in Thomson on Tuesday, Sylvania on Wednesday, and Savannah on Thursday.
