Economist speaks to Kiwanians
Martin Ferrara (left), vice president of Morgan Keegan & Company, Inc. of Augusta, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, May 1. Ferrara's titled presentation was "Investments and the Stock Market." He told members that the U.S. economy is in a period of accelerated growth and corporate profits are increasing. In addition, he discussed the trend in short- and long-term interest rates and stated that tax revenues had been significantly higher thus lowering the national debt. He said that these factors have a positive influence in the stock market, but that the price of energy would determine any sustainability of the economy in the long term. John Howard was the program host for the day.
