Thanks to Beaverdam Baptist Church for hosting the 2007 Georgia Baptist Association Spring Inspirational Meeting Tuesday evening, April 24. Also, thanks to all the members of the churches in the Georgia Baptist Association who made an effort to attend. Wilkes County churches of the Association surely can't say it was too far to go. I surely missed not being able to attend because of sickness. Iam proud of my Christian roots. I remember reading in old minutes where my father, the late Emmette Lyle (Em.L) Johnson was elected a messenger to the Association held with Woodville Baptist Church from Phillips Mill in the early 1900s. He was 18 years old. There were less than 60 people who registered by signing the book, attending this year. "We are still making history," have the same Lord to guide us. He knows our hearts. Row-cropping days have welled passed; work loads to day include the other fellow being boss. Things are so different. So much is going on. Thanks again for all of you who have been so faithful over the years. ..Remember that Phillips Mill Baptist Church will be honoring our high school seniors this Sunday, May 6, with a baccalaureate service and covered dish lunch. We have five young men who will be participating this year. They are Tracy Moore, Jonathan Nicholson, Les Robb, Mark Tench, and Dusty Turner. All friends and relatives are invited to take part. ..Next is Mothers Day coming up the second Sunday in May. We want to wish all mothers, grandmothers, greatgrandmothers, and those who have filled in for a mother a happy Mothers Day in advance. ..Coming up the third Sunday in May, May 20, w ill be the annual homecoming day for Carters Grove Baptist Church. Many in the area have fond memories of attending other homecomings through the years and are looking forward to attending this year to meet their new pastor, Rev. Brian George, a Wilkes County young gentleman. Barbecue will be provided. Any side dishes of your choice will be appreciated. My mother, the late Martha Jane "Mattie" Sherrer Johnson, was among many who grew up at Carters Grove. I would like to thank and commend all who have had a part over the years in keeping Carters Grove Church alive. ..The 2007 Alexander Stephens Institute (ASI) 2007 reunion will be Saturday, May 26, a big day for all who attended school in Crawfordville at ASI. Meet at the old gym. Make reservations for lunch at the old school building at 12:30 p.m. by calling Charles Greene, this year's chairman, 706456-2243. Letters have been mailed out to all who registered last time we met. ..Phillips Mill Baptist Church plans Vacation Bible School June 18-22 with a hotdog lunch on Friday at noon. A sign-up sheet is available in the church vestibule to order T-shirts. Please contact Charlotte Waller if you are interested in helping in any way.
